(i) All foreign nationals intend travelling to Sri Lanka are required to apply for online electronic travel authorization (ETA) as appropriate depending on the purpose of travel before their departure to Sri Lanka by logging on to www.eta.gov.lk website. Further details including the relevant applications fees payable are available on the above website. This system is effective from 01.01.2012 and under this facility ETA will be valid up to 30 days only. However travellers who travel under this facility will be able to extend their ETA in case they expect to stay beyond 30 days by applying to the Department of Immigration & Emigration in Colombo up to a maximum period of 06 months from the original date of arrival.
(ii) Those who are not in a position to apply online or unable to submit applications online, may submit applications to the nearest Sri Lankan mission abroad as done in the past so that the respective mission could process their request in consultation with the Department of Immigration and Emigration on behalf of the applicant.
