The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles commemorated Sri Lanka’s 64th Anniversary of Independence at Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center Auditorium on Saturday, 4th February 2012. Mayor of the City of Redondo, members of the City Council, Diplomats, Senior Government Officials, and prominent Sri Lankan expatriates were among the large gathering attended the event.
The audience included Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim and Christian religious dignitaries, who each offered blessings for Sri Lanka.
The occasion was highlighted the Flag Hoisting Ceremony and lighting the traditional oil lamp. The Sri Lankan and American National Anthems were also sung on the occasion. The Consul General Dr. Hector Weerasinghe read the Message of the President of Sri Lanka, H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The official ceremony was followed by a cultural program produced by the Serendib Foundation.
